Nowhere in the Pacific Northwest could a Catholic student earn a fully accredited university degree alongside solid Catholic intellectual formation.

Young Catholics were forced to choose between their faith and their education — setting aside one to pursue the other. That is a false choice, and a tragic one.

Catholic Pacific College — where faith and reason are not in tension, but integrated. Where a student’s intellectual and spiritual formation are pursued together, from first year to graduation.

Tom and Diane Hamel open Redeemer Pacific College at Trinity Western University — the first institution of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. After years of planning, partnerships with TWU and the Archdiocese of Vancouver, and — in Tom’s own words — “several miracles,” the doors open for the Fall 1999 term. Tom serves as founding President.

The first students experience what it means to have faith and reason fully integrated in a university setting. A small community — but a profound one — begins to take shape. Reports emerge of spontaneous dialogue between Catholic and Protestant students, fulfilling St. John Paul II’s exhortations to ecumenical engagement in Ut Unum Sint.

Dr. Christine Jones becomes the second President of Redeemer Pacific College, continuing to build on the founding vision and deepening the college’s academic and formational programming at TWU.

Redeemer Pacific College is renamed Catholic Pacific College — a name that more fully expresses the college’s identity and its calling to serve as the centre for Catholic formation on Canada’s Pacific Coast.

CPC launches the Catholic Formation Track (CFT) — a full alternative to TWU’s liberal arts core curriculum, comprising 11 courses in theology, philosophy, history, literature, sacred art, and Latin. Students can now pursue any of 45+ TWU degree programs while completing their entire core formation through the lens of the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Scott A. Roy is appointed the third President of Catholic Pacific College, bringing with him eight years of service to CPC across admissions, development, and institutional leadership — and a vision for CPC’s continued growth as the centre for Catholic formation in the Pacific Northwest.

We engage literature, music, art, and culture — not hiding from the world, but sifting it for the beauty God has infused. We seek what is from God, and let it seep through.

In everything we do, in and out of the classroom, we strive to live grace-filled lives. It’s not a one-time thing but a constant journey — choosing words, actions, and an attitude that models Christ, becoming icons that point others toward His reality.

We seek others out and make them feel welcome from the moment they arrive. The trust and relationship between students, staff, and community fosters a place of physical, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional belonging.

CPC’s professors are educated at internationally respected universities — Oxford, the Angelicum, and more — and every theologian holds the mandatum from the Archbishop of Vancouver.

CPC President

In March 2025, Scott was appointed the third President of Catholic Pacific College, after having served as Acting President, Director of Admissions, and Director of Development and External Relations. He has been with the college since 2017.

Scott lives in Chilliwack with his wife, Colleen (former BC Catholic columnist), and their six children. He has earned an Associate of Arts in the Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Theology, and a Master of Arts in Systematic Theology from Christendom Graduate School, graduating Summa Cum Laude and with distinction. He was also awarded an Advanced Apostolic Diploma in Catechetics & Evangelization by authorization of the Holy See, in recognition of his competence in the field of catechesis and his personal commitment to teach Catholic doctrine in communion with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

Prior to CPC, Scott served as a campus missionary with Catholic Christian Outreach for nine years — four years on Simon Fraser University campus and five years in CCO’s Communications department. He converted to Catholicism from Protestantism in 1999, interrupting his studies to become a pastor at a Protestant Bible college.

Admissions Manager

John moved from Calgary and now lives in Langley with his wife, Ariel. He completed a double major in Social Justice and Catholic Studies at St. Mary’s University, graduating Cum Laude and nominated for valedictorian.

Prior to joining CPC, John served as a youth minister for 12 years with Youth for Christ (YFC) and co-laboured with the Church through Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) at the University of Calgary as a faith study leader for four years. Outside work, you can find John playing basketball, watching the sunrise and sunset, or eating pizza.

Jennifer keeps the college running smoothly, supporting students, staff, and faculty with care and dedication.

Jenn, alongside her husband Greg of 20 years, is a proud resident of Port Coquitlam, B.C., where they raise their three children. Since entering into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church in 2003, Jenn’s life has been defined by a deep commitment to faith and service.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care (Extended Minor in Criminal Justice) from the University of the Fraser Valley. She remained on the Dean’s List throughout her studies and was selected as the Student Speaker for her convocation. Following 25 years of impactful work with youth and families at the City of Maple Ridge, Kinsight, and various schools, Jennifer answered a call to deepen her ministry. In 2024, she earned her Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry from the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Magna Cum Laude).

A long-time parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Jenn has served in everything from youth ministry to the CWL, and currently serves the Adult Faith Formation Coordinator. When she isn't reading or playing music, she enjoys spending quality time with friends and family. Jenn is overjoyed to bring her administrative expertise and joyful spirit to Catholic Pacific College—please stop by the office to say hello!

Nowhere in Western Canada or the US Northwest does another institution replace the entire university core curriculum with the Catholic intellectual tradition. CPC doesn’t add Catholic courses to a secular degree — it sanctifies the foundation of the degree itself.

Because CPC students are TWU students, every CPC course counts toward any of the 45+ undergraduate majors at TWU — Business, Sciences, Education, Psychology, Computing, and more.

Every CPC theologian holds the mandatum from the Archbishop of Vancouver and makes an annual oath of loyalty to the Magisterium. The faith taught here is the faith of the Church.
